Applicants must be in the ninth (9th) grade at time of application, reside and attend a public or scholarship student at a private high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Must also self-identify as African American, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, under-represented Asian and/or Pacific Islander or mixed race/multiracial with one parent from the above ethnicities. Eligible students should come from a low income or resource-constrained family. We especially encourage applications from students who would be the first members of their families to attend college.
Reside in California in one of the following counties:
SMASH Berkeley or SMASH Stanford: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, or Solano

Other application materials include 2 essays and a short answer section, parent questionnaire, recommendations from a math and science teacher, transcripts, and CST/STAR test scores.
