The National Historic Landmark ocean-going steam tugboat Hercules now moored at historic Hyde Street Pier under the auspices of the National Park Service at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is looking for dedicated volunteers in both its engine and deck departments to assist on their normal Wednesday schedules.
This position advertisement is open only to all US Residents & the Territories thereof.
You will work with other highly skilled volunteers and staff with hopes of expanding your seafaring knowledge in stabilization, repair and restoration.
Other duties may include painting, varnishing, repair, oiling and wiping down machinery parts. Work often occurs over water and depending on one’s skill level, duties may also include the use of hand and power tools.
Of Special Interest are licensed steam engineers, oilers, wipers, and ABS (Able Bodied Seaman) are specifically sought, but all hands are welcome to take part in the preservation of this rare and historic steam tugboat.
Time Commitment: The time commitment is usually 8 to 10 hours per/ month. Usually, Wednesday is the tugboat's volunteer host day.
More hours are offered to those who make the request of the ship or volunteer supervisor on mutually agreed dates and times.
